Pictures from June 2002 Grand Canyon Raft Trip
The Little Colorado at its confluence with the main Colorado.
The water is an astonishing turquoise, and flows from springs a few miles
upriver.
At the Little Colorado we were in the company of no fewer than 8 motor
rigs (people and motor rigs not shown). We estimated we shared this
place with about 150 other people. It was a zoo. This is wilderness?
It's like being at a nice quiet diner and having a busload of high school
band kids get dropped off. The motor rigs do a "greatest hits"
version of a Colorado River trip, hitting a nice spot and then motoring
quickly down to the next. There were several places where we were
overrun with motor crowds.
Mike approaching one of several travertine drops. You put your
life jacket on as a diaper to float you and protect your bum.
Whooo! The water is warm and pleasant.
