Pictures from May 2002 Labyrinth/Stillwater River Trip

The last bend in the Green River before the confluence with the Colorado.  Brown, the way desert rivers should be.

Gail piloting the Canoe.  Note the suds on the river.  It was like beach foam.  At times huge rafts of it would float by.  Apparantly it is caused by soapy substances leaching out of plant roots during spring runoff (such as it was this year in the bone-dry Colorado Basin).

After the Green River trip I went over to Mesa Verde for a few days before my Grand Canyon trip.  Here is the ruin called The Cliff Palace.  Note the numerous Kivas.  Experts believed this to me more of a ritualistic center than a place where people lived permanently.

Glyphs in Mesa Verde.  Many toes.  Predators.
